This FAQ answers common questions about registering and managing .qa domain names through QHost, including registration from outside Qatar, documentation requirements, pricing, data privacy, DNS management, renewals and domain transfers.

1. Can I register a .qa domain if I live outside Qatar? #

Yes. The .qa domain extension is available to individuals and businesses in Qatar, proof nationality or residency (or a local company CR/trade mark is mandatory as of 22/OCT/2026).

The entire process, including registration, payment and domain management, can be completed online through QHost.

2. Do I need a Qatar ID (QID), Establishment Card or company documents? #

For standard .qa domain registrations, the following documents are normally required:

• Qatar ID (QID)
• Establishment Card
• Commercial Registration (CR)
• Passport or national identity document
• Company incorporation certificate

Customers must provide accurate registration and contact information during checkout.

Additional identity or business verification may occasionally be requested for fraud prevention, security, regulatory compliance or domain ownership verification. A domain name may be deleted at anytime if the documents are not provided or found invalid by Qhost or CRA review.

3. How much does a .qa domain cost? #

4. Is DNS management included with my domain? #

Every .qa domain registered through QHost includes the ability to manage its nameservers.

You can point your domain to external DNS providers or hosting services without purchasing hosting from QHost.

If you want to create and edit individual DNS records directly through QHost, including A, AAAA, CNAME, MX and TXT records, our optional DNS Management add-on is available for QAR 29 per year.

This service can be enabled through your QHost client area under Domain Management.

5. Do I need to purchase website or email hosting? #

No. You can register a .qa domain without purchasing website hosting, email hosting or any other service.

Your domain can be connected to your preferred third-party hosting provider by configuring the appropriate nameservers or DNS records.

6. Is my personal information publicly visible in WHOIS searches? #

The Qatar Domains Registry determines which information is publicly displayed through its WHOIS service.

Public WHOIS records may include technical domain information such as:

• Domain name
• Sponsoring registrar
• Domain status
• Contact Name (no email is shown)
• Nameservers

Contact data submitted to the registrar or registry may still be processed and disclosed where required by applicable law or Registry policy.

Important: Registry WHOIS disclosure rules are different from the internal information maintained by a registrar. Customers should provide accurate registration information and, where appropriate, use authorized business contact details.

7. Does QHost offer WHOIS privacy protection? #

Privacy for .qa domains is governed by the Qatar Domains Registry’s WHOIS policies.

Unlike some international domain extensions, .qa domains do not generally rely on a separate commercial WHOIS privacy proxy service.

The Registry’s disclosure rules apply to registrations and renewals, subject to any subsequent changes in policy or applicable legislation.

8. Can I register a .qa domain under my company name? #

Yes. A domain may be registered under an eligible legal entity using its correct registered company name and contact details.

The company should be entered as the registrant during registration.

Administrative access to the QHost client account may be managed by an authorized company representative.

We recommend using official business contact information to ensure continuity of domain ownership and management.

9. Who owns and controls the domain after registration? #

The registrant recorded in the domain registration data is the registered domain holder, subject to applicable Registry policies and registration terms.

QHost acts as the accredited registrar and provides the tools needed to administer the domain.

Through your client account, you can:

• View and renew your domain.
• Manage nameservers.
• Update permitted contact information.
• Manage DNS records when the relevant service is enabled.
• Request assistance with ownership updates.
• Initiate transfers subject to applicable Registry policies.

10. Can I transfer my domain to another registrar? #

Yes. You may transfer an eligible .qa domain to another CRA-accredited registrar in accordance with the applicable Qatar Domains Registry transfer procedures.

Transfers may require an authorization code and compliance with any applicable transfer restrictions.

QHost does not charge a separate outgoing registrar transfer fee. The receiving registrar may apply its own charges.

11. How does domain renewal work? #

.qa domains are registered for a defined registration period and must be renewed before their expiry date to maintain uninterrupted service.

Customers can renew their domains through the QHost client area.

QHost also issues renewal reminders to the registered account contact.

We strongly recommend keeping your account email address accurate and renewing your domain before its expiry date.

12. What happens if my domain expires? #

If a .qa domain is not renewed by its expiry date, associated services may stop functioning.

Depending on the domain’s lifecycle status and Registry policy, it may become eligible for restoration, deletion or subsequent registration by another party.

Additional charges may apply if restoration is available and required.

To avoid service interruption or potential loss of your domain, always renew before expiry.

13. Can I cancel a domain registration or request a refund? #

Domain registrations are subject to QHost’s applicable cancellation and refund policies.

Eligible .qa registration cancellation requests made within three calendar days may qualify for a refund, subject to policy conditions and a QAR 50 processing deduction plus applicable tax.

Outside the eligible cancellation period, registration and renewal fees are generally non-refundable.

Please consult the current refund policy before submitting a cancellation request.

Please note that such requests are processed during normal working hours only.

14. How does QHost handle registration information and identity documents? #

QHost processes domain registration information for purposes including domain administration, customer support, billing, security and regulatory compliance.

Registration information may be shared with the Qatar Domains Registry and other authorized parties where necessary to provide the service or comply with applicable legal obligations.

Identity documents are not ordinarily required for standard .qa registrations. If additional verification documents are requested, their processing and retention are governed by applicable data protection requirements and QHost’s internal policies.

15. How long does it take to register a .qa domain? #

Most standard .qa domain registrations can be completed online in minutes (instant realtime registration via our connection to the .qa registry).

Once payment has been successfully processed and the registration is accepted by the Registry, the domain is normally provisioned automatically.

Additional verification, Registry processing or DNS propagation may occasionally require more time.
